New Concept in Law Enforcement: Ravens in Black

Having had a day now to absorb and reflect on Monday night’s Ravens-Pats affair, one thing sticks out for me. Sure, there were a lot of storylines and now all of this Samari Rolle sordidness and the ref-gate rumors. It’s all a conspiracy so the NFL can get the undefeated Pats and the Giants on the final game of the year….on the NFL Network! But that wasn’t the indelible image emblazoned on my memory. No, it was the Ravens in all black. Frightening.
Yes, they’ve donned the “pitch blacks” before, but something about that defense flying around in black pants, black jerseys, face shields and black helmets was somehow more intimidating than ever before on Monday night. Which got us to thinking…since the Ravens O doesn’t seem in any hurry to get with the program, it sort of takes away from any of the efforts of the black shirts on D. Plus, the Ravens are 4-8 and going nowhere.
So, why not give the defense the last few weeks off and have them dedicate themselves to serving the greater good or, more specifically, protecting it. You’re telling me putting Bart Scott, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, McAllister, Suggs and the crew out on the street in those unis to protect and serve wouldn’t work? Think Terry Tate but outside the corporate environment.
Let’s get these Ravens out walking the beat…keeping an eye out around troublesome blocks…standing security outside retail outlets with a history theft problems…I guarantee those problems will disappear. If I see Ed Reed standing in the all-blacks outside Walmart there’s not a chance in hell I’m trying to walk out of there with so much as a pack of gum. And, for those who dare to press their luck, nobody’s outrunning two-zero in an open parking lot. Screw the United Way, let’s get the Ravens suited up and fighting crime. G-d knows they don’t have anything else to play for this season.
And we even have an idea for a sponsor who’s already affiliated with the NFL. Somebody get Goodell on the horn…
