Let’s Go Mets, Go!

Happy Johan Day, LCG readers! With Erie’s Scribe kicking off our official regular season baseball coverage, we felt compelled to drop a little hint to any newbies. ES is a rabid Tribe fan. He has recently re-located to the D.C. area and adopted the Nationals as his red-headed stepchild.
Cecilio’s Scribe is a lifelong Mets fan. You will hear about the Metros on this here blog from time-to-time. If you don’t like it, tough. Like most Atlanta natives, the World’s Tallest Jockey pretends to like the Braves but really couldn’t give a rat’s ass when you put baseball up against Dawgs football or SEC/ACC hoops.
Now, with Johan Santana taking the hill in Florida at 410 p.m. there is reason for optimism, but we blue-and-orange loyalists are a generally “glass-half-empty” lot. Why? Well, because not all that much greatness has come since a little over 20 years ago.
During that 1986 season, a lot of of memorable things took place. The video below was certainly one of them. For those who didn’t grow up in the metropolitan area, this song done blew up in NYC. It was on MTV. Top of the Z100 charts for months. It was awesomely bad.
The message still rings true today — particularly today. Let’s go Mets, go!
And, yes, we acknowledge that continually harping back to a team and a season more than two decades in the rearview mirror is somewhat pathetic. What the hell else are we supposed to do?
