Hall of Fame Smooch?

Happy Monday, all. Got the whole day job thing keeping me down a bit, so apologies for the relative lack of posting. An upcoming vacation may mean even less Cecilio’s Scribe, but good news LCG fans! Erie’s Scribe, after a trip to Triple A Akron to establish a residence and get things all set up for some education on the ole’ legal profession, is prepping a triumphant comeback to the bigs. Management is hoping ES will return to the active roster the first week of July, providing an immediate boost to team productivity.

In the meantime, off to the links!

So, the big news on sports talk radio of late seems to be Curt Schilling and his Hall of Fame credentials. The popular line is that determining HOF-worthiness should be a gut reaction. Say a player’s name and then Hall of Fame. If your mind doesn’t immediately say “lock” (in other words ,you have to think about it) then he probably shouldn’t be heading to the Hall. For me, the name Schilling doesn’t equate to definitive “lock.” Bugs & Cranks takes a bit stronger stance on why #38 shouldn’t gain entry into the hallowed hall. Odds and Sods approaches from the other side of the argument.

A lot of, in this blogger’s opinion, unnecessary hullabaloo about Johnny Miller’s statements at the U.S. Open. As someone whose last name ends in a vowel and has a good deal of eye-talian blood in ‘em, I took Miller’s comment for what I think it was intended to be. It was a quick, dry joke aimed at garnering a chuckle in the context of what is often an utterly emotionless thing – a golf broadcast. As is often the case, I tend to agree with Awful Announcing and their take.

In lighter Interweb banter, The Money Shot takes a look at the Jeff Conine All-Stars, a group of major leaguers who seem to stick around against all logic (much like our alligator blood roster).

Sticking on the softer side, Larry Brown Sports brings us a great video from a rain delay at Fenway Park. Manny Del Carmen and Jonathan Papelbon doing their rendition of Milli Vanilli’s “Blame it on the Rain.” Wait a second, did I just write that sentence? Awesome. Isn’t it good to see Major Leaguers having a least a little more fun recently. Must be something about precipitation, huh?

And, finally, as we laugh a bit here on Monday morning, we say goodbye to a comedic legend of multiple generations. Talk about a guy whose resume was stellar no matter the era…Can’t Stop the Bleeding throws some more love to one of our all-time favorites, George Carlin.
