Fighter, Legend, Role Model
We’re not going to write the story of Kay Yow here. It will be told time and again over the coming days and weeks — and with good reason. I don’t follow women’s college basketball, but through my work I’ve come to know and learn about Kay Yow. She waged a tremendous personal fight against cancer, adopted the broader campaign for cancer research with passion and relentless zeal and coached and shaped young women for 34 years at NC State. She’s the fifth winningest coach in women’s basketball history and a member of the basketball Hall of Fame. She’s one of those rare figures whose legacy and impact on the game stretches far beyond the court.
RIP, Coach Yow.
