Mixed Thoughts on Coles to Bungles

Laveranues Coles is a Bungle. Seems weird just saying it. But, after a combined five seasons with the
J-E-T-S, Coles will be be catching passes from Carson Palmer. Our feelings are mixed.
In a sense, Coles was a fixture and steady performer (although not a superstar) for the millenium version of the green-and-white. For the majority of his tenure(s), he kept his mouth shut and went out and caught balls. Coles helped the Jets win a lot of games and took a whole bunch of punishment along the way.
His history and “life story” make Laveranues a guy you want to root on. Yet, something about his final year in New York left a bit of a bitter taste in this Jets fan’s mouth. After years of head down grinding, 2008 was a year more about whining. His incessant bitching ultimately succeeding in doing very little except perhaps helping overshadow another solid if not spectacular season where he racked up another 70 catches for seven touchdowns.
I think part of my problem with Coles lies in his personality. Fans gravitate to players who not only produce, but lead their teams. The vocal guys who fire up the crowd, inspire their teammates and seem to be jacked up on Red Bull (and other grown up substances, I gather) 100% of the time. Big-time receivers usually fits this archetype to a “t.” Coles was not one of those players. It doesn’t make him a bad guy, or a bad receiver, it just makes him less memorable and maybe a little less beloved.
So, we wish Coles the best. We wouldn’t be surprised to see a resurgence for ole number 87 in Cincy. Assuming Palmer is healthy, Benson lives up to his original billing and Ocho Cinco decides he wants to play again – all humongous assumptions – Coles could be poised for quite the season. Meanwhile, the Jets will continue their never-ending quest for a true showstopping receiver. Don’t even think about it…

Forget Coles. The Jets or Gaints should get TO. He will not only help either team on the field but press will have a field day with him.
Was never the hugest Coles fan. Sort of a “meh” player on the field, and a whiny contract complainer off it. Hope he does well, but we can do just fine without him.
“meh” is a perfect description. Seriously, he just doesn’t do much to inspire ya.
He should succeed in Cincy because he’s no longer being asked to play as anything more than what he is. The Jets tried to make him a No. 1 receiver, when he’s a middle of the field, possession guy.
Personally, I’m going to miss him. The guy was a warrior and gave his all on the field every time. Unfortunately, age wasn’t on his side, Cotchery has better hands (but a little less speed), and he didn’t have game-breaking potential.
He always got a tough rap from Jets fans. The media twisted his words around regularly to make him appear disgruntled. And when he didn’t give them anything, then the headlines would read that he was being emotional.
I wish him the best in Cincy.
