Fenway Pahk and Big Red Lax, Beantown Weekend for CS

Greetings ye Legend faithful. Thanks for hanging with us. For those that know me, it’s that time of year again. The week/weekend where I head out to voluntarily subject myself to Mets baseball…on the road…with my mother. It’s a tradition now going on seven years. Scary.

So, I’m off today and tomorrow and extending the Memorial Day weekend holiday. This year’s destination? Historic Fenway Park. Coming off a disastrous sweep in LaLa land, the Mets limp into Beantown with half of a roster, to a venue where the hometeam typically dominates, with little realistic shot of winning any games outside of Santana tomorrow night. Should be good times all-around. I can’t think of one bad thing that could happen, not a single one.

In all seriousness though, I do enjoy these trips (props to you, mom). It’s some quality mother-son bonding, and, although I usually suffer through a few moments of hair-pulling anger, the fact that moms is more of a psycho about this franchise than I makes for good fun. Plus, I love Fenway. It’s indescribable what makes it so great. Actually, it’s quite describable but that’s for another post and another time.

The other funny thing about spending Mets-related time with my mother is that she actually still thinks they’re good. Even more humorous is that she listens to NY sportstalk radio all day (after reading the Post, Daily News and NYT back-to-front) and then calls me at work constantly. “Did you hear what Mike (Francesca) just said about Jerry Manuel?” she’ll ask incredulously. The concept that I have a job and am not listening to The Fan or 1050 ESPN Radio still seems to allude her. This has been going on now for several years.

Anyway, we’ll be hitting up Mets-Sox tomorrow and Saturday night and are now tossing in a little bonus action (tix secured) as my alma mater the Big Red is playing in the lax national semifinals versus UVA on Saturday in Foxboro. Sometimes things just work out too well. I was always sure my first trip to Gillette would be to check out the Jets and watch them get blasted by Belichick’s boys, but I guess that will have to wait. There will be plenty of opportunities. Of course, I’ll still be sure to spit on anything Pats-related I see on Saturday.

Hope to throw up a post or two over the course of the weekend, so keep checking back. Thanks, as always, for your patronage. Let’s go Nugg.
