Sanchez to SF Probably Not Best Move Ever…for Giants

Giants Fans Not Totally Psyched

I’ll be honest. Call it east coast bias, or whatever you’d like. I hadn’t really bought into the Giants as a team to take seriously. It’s not like I’m being a homer here, either. With the Mets ostensibly on life support, I have no ulterior motive not to be objective. There is no really legitimate explanation for my doubt. I’ve seen the standings. I know they’re currently leading the NL Wild Card chase. Still, I guess I’ve just figured same old story. Good young pitching, weak hitting. Lineup instills no fear. And, of course, as I once espoused (before other more qualified folks tackled the topic with real reasearch) maybe the worst cleanup hitter ever. Suddenly, though, my radar was beeping a bit louder with recent moves.

Turns out, I should have probably just ignored it and gone with my gut. Or so say the folks at stellar Giants blog McCovey Chronicles. This is why before ever posting my random, unfounded thoughts on a team (which in this case still seemingly would have been close to the opinions of those who know) I at least do a temperature check with the team blogs over at SB Nation. Because, quite simply, the guys and gals who run those blogs are as passionate and knowledgeable about their teams as I’d like to think I occasionally am about my own faves. McCovey Chronicles fits the bill.

So, what do the MC folks think about the Sanchez deal? Pretty much an epic fail. Read and learn. You see I’d always been curious if all this Fire Sabean talk was a common sentiment or just the slighlty over-the-top rants of a tiny minority. It appears the former as reflected here, here and here.

Wait, so you’re saying Molina’s still not the power-hitting answer?
