One More Reason to Look Forward to Football Season: Awesome Fan Headgear

The Holy Grail of Headgear?
You see, football is unique to fan headgear. Two-toned caps are about as “wild” as it gets at America’s baseball stadiums. At basketball arenas, perhaps the occasional round ball head with the bottom half of the ball cut off – innovative, yes, but very, very rare. Contrarily, football is a sport whose fans proudly don all manner of head adornments.
Maybe it’s the cold weather and the “manliness” it takes to brave the elements as a fan. Or perhaps we simply so idolize our beloved gridders that we seek headgear more resembling the helmets that protect their craniums between the hashmarks.
Whatever the reason…I’m just happy football brings out the best in fan’s noggin coverings. Here are a few of my personal favorites, but I know I’ve got to be missing some obvious ones. Hit us up with fantabulous football fan headgear in the comments. Here’s to the men and women who pioneered this category and those make us all envy today by showcasing their tremendous pride…on or about their heads.
There is a lot tremendous about this fan, including his own Viking helmet. You can go fur or no-fur. He obviously prefers the fur. Probably for extra warmth (umm, in the dome). Subtle. Inconspicuous. Never goes out of style. It’s more than a show of support, it’s a way of life. And they start ‘em young… Nothing says hardcore fan, like a good ‘ole hard hat. You pack your lunch pail just like your Still-ers. Points for originality. These folks were trailblazers like the Dawg Pound crew, conceptualizing ridiculous, but absolutely thematically-appropriate, new ways to show off their fanaticism. Thumbs up. This could be one of our favorite recent additions to the football fan headgear repertoire. Personally, it might be time for me to purchase my Jets model. Here Ovie rocks a nice ‘Skins version. However, he needs to lose hat under helmet. Silly Russians. On that note, why ruin a perfectly good Sean Taylor jersey with a Jason Campbell autograph?
