New Look, Same Old Rants: Welcome Braylon Edwards?

Some of y’all regulars might notice a bit of a different look. I’m never going to be a Johnny Big-Time blog with fancy graphics, lots of slick ads and super-duper photoshop jobbies and animations. And that’s cool. Regardless, I tried to enlist some help to make some small adjustments that might make things a bit cleaner and maybe convince folks to click around a bit more (like, maybe even on an ad, *hint*). Going to keep playing around with some stuff, so bear with me.

Now, shall we get back to the news that you know is on my mind? Yes, let’s talk Braylon Edwards. I think I like it. Maybe. OK, I’m not sure I have any f-in idea, but let me drop some unsubstantiated off-the-cuff thoughts of a random nature. This is what went through my head about 15 hours ago when a fellow Jet cronie hit me with the text. It’s been a long-ass day, and I’m only just now absorbing it all. Regardless, just let me get it out.

Initial reaction: Pumped. How can you not be as a Jets fan on the surface? Lacking a #1, we just picked up a legit deep threat who has #1 ability and has – at times – put up #1 numbers. He’s also 6’3, 215. Six foot three, two hundred and fifteen pounds. That’s a big receiver. We Jets faithful are not used to those. As such, they excite us.

Secondary Reaction: Sanchez. Rookie quarterback. Probably took awhile for him to get rhythm with receivers, you bring in another guy now and what’s the result?

Secondary Reaction (part B): Braylon could also take some pressure of Sanchez and make life easier for several members of the offense in multiple respects. In theory…problem solved, right?

Next Thought: Attitude. Malcontent? Dropsies? I’ll be honest. I’ve heard Braylon in interviews countless times. I’ve followed his career. Is he a primadonna? I think most definitely. Is he Brandan Marshall-f-in-crazy/asshole? Based on not much of anything, I don’t think so (I mean, c’mon, is this the sound of a bad guy?).

Last thought: Did I mention those drops?

OK, really final thought. I’m excited. How people can unilaterally kill or laud this trade is beyond me. There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic, and possibly just as many to be petrified. Right now, I am cautiously optimistic — which is saying a lot for a Jets fan. I think the upside here far outweighs the pitfalls. Can’t wait until Sunday. Show me something, Braylon.

I think if Braylon figures out how to catch the ball again, it will work out for both teams. Cleveland had to trade him because this was the last year of his deal. What were the Browns going to do, franchise him? I don't think so.

Braylon had more drops over the last two years than any receiver in the game including Terrell Owens. And he took a lot of the blame for running such horrendous routes as to make Derek Anderson lose his job in the first place with INTs.

Then again, consider the fact that he was being "coached up" by Romeo Crennel and all hope isn't really lost. But make no mistake, this is a resurrection job that is going to require some work, I think. Braylon's head isn't right after the Cleveland experience.

He even convinced himself that we hated him because he was from Michigan instead of because he dropped everything that was thrown in his direction.

As I said though, if Braylon plays this will be great for both teams. The Browns needed draft picks to help build a foundation. That 3rd and 5th could help if the Browns find two actual players at those spots.
