Purdue Scores 11…in the First HALF

First off, props to Minnesota for advancing to the Big Ten finals. I’ve always been a Tubby Smith fan and happy to see him and his team making a run. But, really, the big news out of the Gophers pounding of once-mighty Purdue was the scoreboard at the close of the first half.

The Boilermakers, who climbed ridiculously high in the polls earlier in the season, have struggled since 16 PPG forward Robbie Hummel dropped with an ACL at the end of February.

Still, Purdue had to get a buzzer-beating layup at the end of the first half to crack double digits. Don’t get me wrong, I get the Big Ten style of basketball and, at times, the scoreboard can be relatively inactive as the halfcourt game slows to an agonizing pace. But 11 points? 11?? In a half? What gives, Boilermakers? It would’ve been great to see a 9-spot up there just for posterity’s sake. It just would’ve been flat-out funny to look at. Sure that does a lot for this team’s psyche heading into the dance…
