Flyers Mimic the Lightning’s Neutral Zone Trap

We’re not going to pretend to be puckheads here at the Legend. We like to keep tabs on our Rangers, though, and occasionally check out regular season games. Admittedly, I jump on full force come playoffs time, because there may be nothing better in pro sports.So, with that preface, we share the below video because, well, it’s funny. The Tampa Bay Lightning and other teams have been employing more of the “neutral zone trap,” although I recall the Devils mastering the art decades ago to great fanfare. The strategy tends to create not-particularly-exciting hockey. Some think it shouldn’t be a part of the game. Flyers Coach Peter Laviolette is one of those guys. So, during their contest in Tampa last night, he decided to play copycat for a bit and make a statement.
