Best NFL Playoff Interview: Can’t Wait vs. My Quarterback

Playoffs? Playoffs!!?? Everyone knows that clip and Jim Mora is rightfully immortalized for it. But what about two memorable interviews from recent memory and, well, the playoffs!
The past few seasons have produced a pair of the most memorable post-game oratory performances in NFL history. One, soaring in victory. The other, whimpering in defeat. Both epic. Each timeless. We put them to a tale of the tape. In one corner…
Who: Bart Scott
What: “Can’t Wait”
When: January 16, 2011
Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, Mass.
Who: Terrell Owens
What: “My Teammate, My Quarterback”
When: January 13, 2009
Where: Texas Stadium, Irving, TX
Wow, where to begin. Both legendary and difficult to ever be replicated. Each powerful in its own right. Let’s break it down:
Cinematic Drama: Advantage Owens
While Bart’s flight is well-choreographed, the dramatic oratory performance by T.O, capped by the quivering lip and tears gains the edge.
Comedy Quotient: Advantage Scott
Scott takes it on the nosebleed comment alone. No contest.
Delivery: Push
Both are spontaneously memorable and neither appeared too scripted which produce a taste, smoothness and viewability you’ll find in no other playoff time interviews at any price.
Mixability: Push
Check on the YouTubes. It’s a close call. Each lend themselves quite well to remixes.
Popularity: Advantage Scott
The views tell only part of the story. Bart has parlayed “can’t wait” into a worthwhile cause to benefit Rutgers Eric Legrand and a truly awful-tastic commercial for JC Penney.
Winner: Can’t Wait (by a nose)
Overall, we have to go with Bart Scott for the completeness of his interview. Drama, comedy and passability. The trifecta in the most most memorable playoff interview in recent memory!
