J.R. Smith’s “Master Blaster” Alley-Oop Reverse Jam

The play of J.R. Smith has been one of the more compelling stories of the 2012-13 New York Knicks season to date. Whether it’s toning down his post-game nightlife or some special Mike Woodson voodoo magic (or maybe a combination and more), it’s clear that this is a new and improved J.R. Sure, there are still plenty of “bad J.R.” moments, but his play overall has been much steadier. Most notably, the effort and hustle has been there every minute of every game. Early talk about sixth man of the year does not seem all that absurd either.

No matter his previous travails, the talent has always been undeniable. It’s been on display time and again this season — from his three point shooting to his clutch game-winning moments to so many reminders of just how tough a cover he can be in a one on one situation.

On top of all those things, lest we not forget Smith is also a freakish athlete that can get off the floor and do some ridiculous things. Last night provided a great example. But, before we get there, let’s just give props to another stellar statline:

20 points (on 9-17), 5 boards, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block (and that’s with going 1-6 from three and missing two of three attempts from the line).

Now, check out this reverse alley-oop throwdown off a pass from Pablo Prigioni. Stupid. Clyde called it the “master blaster.” Sounds good to me, Mr. Frazier.
