Via the fine folks at It’s Always Sunny in Detroit, comes this f-in gem of a clip. I didn’t know who Stryker Trahan was before today, but you can bet I’ll remember him now (and not just because of his too-trendy name).
Stryker was taken by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first round of this year’s First-Year Player Draft. The catcher out of Acadiana (La.) High School was taken number 26 overall. He currently plays in the D-Backs system in the Arizona Rookie League. That’s all you need to know, really. That and, of course, this epic clip.
As a former HS catcher, this would have been about as glorious a moment as I could have imagined at the position. Check it out as the baserunner comes barreling down the line heading toward the plate…Stryker braces himself…and then drops him like a sack of potatoes, ball firmly planted in glove.
Baserunner out. Inning over. Catcher walks off calmly as if he expected no other result. Runner struggles to get his bearings. Awesome.
