ESPN Channels Its Inner Fresh Prince

Two random things on this. First, just a personal thing, I hate Power Rankings. I think they are a completely pointless waste of time and have even less redeeming qualities than fantasy sports. Second, is it me or is ESPN trying just a little too hard to channel their inner Fresh Prince? Is that one…wait, two…wait, three…no, four references to the 1991 Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff hit “Summertime” in the same two-sentence teaser? Are Will Smith and Jazzy J paying you under the table or something? Not that we’ve got anything against the feel-good tune, and the men who introduced “rap” to hundreds of thousands of hard-core suburban white kids back in the late 80s and early 90s.

But, if you’re going to go to such ends to play up the references, why not go all out and just drop the video on the front page? I mean it would be a little bit of a break from the norm.
