Nats awesome Jayson Werth gnome playoff promo
- Updated: October 3, 2014
The Washington Nationals begin their 2014 postseason journey in a few hours in D.C. as they get set to face the San Francisco Giants. The ‘Natitude around the capital city is strong to quite strong, so tickets are not easy to come by.
However, the Nats are opening up a unique opportunity to a few sleuthing fans to score tickets to Saturday’s game two at Nationals Park. Simply find the wandering Jayson Werth gnomes.
I’m a sucker for marketing, so I love this one. Cheap, attention-getting and immensely shareable. The details are apparently thus (from AP):
The Nationals say they’ve hidden approximately 100 Jayson Werth garden gnomes throughout District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.
Six of the gnomes are signed by the outfielder. Anyone who finds a signed gnome will win two tickets to Saturday’s NLDS game 2 against the San Francisco Giants at Nationals Park.
The promotional gnomes were given out to fans back in August. They feature the bearded Werth wearing red sunglasses and a pointed, red Nationals hat.
The gnomes’ finders have been tweeting pictures of their discoveries using the hashtag #WerthGoesGnome.
My only critique? Only SIX, Washington Nationals. Six?? Couldn’t get a little more generous on that front. Maybe 28 for #28? Or some other symbolic number? C’mon. And, oh yes, the response on the Twitters has been splendid. What else did you expect? It’s a clever promotion and one of the coolest gnomes I’ve seen in some time. We’ve even found ourselves a few early winners. They’re out there, Washington. Get after it.
