The media mania around Michael Jordan’s 50th birthday has come and gone. Thankfully. Although now, we can apparently look forward to a scaled-back version of the same in honor of the Chuckster. It’s all a bit much in my humble opinion.
That said, the MJ highlights never get old. I could keep watching them all day. Not surprising for a grown-ass man who still rocks a retro “Out of This World” Jordan poster on his office wall. Anyway, what this Jordan barrage brought about was a dredging up of not only all the unforgettable moments but some hidden gems as well. This clip is one of them.
I, for one, had never seen this video of a 20-year old MJ as a Tarheel. The game is against Duke and the play is pretty classic Jordan. After a UNC turnover, MJ sprints back and gets called for one of the more impressive goaltends I can recall on a Johnny Dawkins layup. Love the announcers too: “I heard a little bang…” Check it out as Jordan swats away the attempt and hits his head against the backboard in the process.
