Pirates prospect Marte goes yard on first MLB pitch
- Updated: July 27, 2012
The Pittsburgh Pirates are 14 games over .500. It’s almost August. A.J. Burnett is now 12-3. They sit just two back of the Reds in the NL Central. Andrew McCutchen is a franchise player and MVP candidate. Can things get any better for the Bucos? Wait, is this happening? The answers to both those questions may be yes. Starling Marte seems to symbolize that hope and optimism.
Marte is a top prospect in the Pirates system. And damn does he just look the part. His first at-bat in the Majors did nothing to dissuade that perception. Starting in left field, he went 2-fo-4 with a run and an RBI. Here’s what Marte did with the first pitch he say in the big leagues. Nice start, kid. Nice start.
