Say hello to Amanda Marcum Enfield, the about-to-be new thing thanks to FGCU

Welcome to March Madness, America. Oh yes, and please welcome Amanda Marcum Enfield to the party (pictured at right). The name may not immediately ring a bell, but the face and figure may get you intrigued. She’s modeled for Victoria Secret and graced the pages of Maxim, Elle and VOGUE. It gets more interesting when you know she’s the wife of Andy Enfield. Still struggling? Well, perhaps you’ve now heard of a similarly lesser-known-name-until-recently: Florida Gulf Coast University. You see, Coach Enfield’s had himself a decent little run this year. And his story, as well as his lovely wife, are about to start grabbing a lot more headlines following the 15th-seeded FGCU Eagles’ upset win over the #2-seeded Georgetown Hoyas last night.
As impressive as the victory is for a school in only it’s second year of tournament eligibility, its coach’s family is already becoming the story — and with good reason. Enfield played college ball at Johns Hopkins where he still holds school records for career points. He also holds the NCAA record for free throw percentage having hit an absurd .925 clip missing only 25 attempts over his four-year career.Yet what you might expect his path to have been, considering its current position, is far for routine.
After his college days, he garnered some gigs as an NBA “shot doctor” and assistant coach in the mid-90s. He then partnered with a buddy on a successful start-up that would be worth about $100M when Enfield opted out. During that time, he also worked on Wall Street. Only a few years ago, did he return to the coaching ranks as part of the staff at Florida State. In 2011, he took the reigns at little-known GFCU.
It seems things have turned out OK for Enfield, all things considered. His Eagles are flying high. For how long, who knows. But, like their coach, they aren’t short on confidence. And they sure as hell don’t seem to intimidated. You want evidence? How about pulling this play with 2:00 left in yesterday’s game?
We’re on the bandwagon. Why not, right? Gotta like this guy’s attitude. Let’s be real. We don’t mind seeing his wife on camera either. Go Enfields. Go Eagles.
