Wounded Warriors Take the Field at Fenway Park
- Updated: August 20, 2013
The Boston Red Sox sit atop the AL East and are primed for a playoff run. However, the team taking the field at Fenway Park on Monday was even more impressive.
As the Sawx traveled West to take on the Giants in a evening affair, historic Fenway hosted the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team (WWAST) — a group of war veterans and active duty soldiers missing limbs, but lacking nothing in heart and game. The traveling team faced off against a group comprised of Boston Marathon first responders…and dominated. The final tally was 28-11, although the scoreboard tells nothing of the story.
Here’s a brief clip recapping the event from WCVB-TV (ABC) in Boston.
A never-adequate tip of the cap to all our military personnel for their current and past service.
Gate donations collected at the event went to Boston’s One Fund, established to “assist victims and families affected by the tragic events at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013 and in the days that followed.” To date, One Fund Boston has raised more than $60M for the victims and the families.
